Some Good Luck….Some Bad Luck
30 Jun 2009
The team recovered well from the previous week’s issues. A new starter was installed and the tires were checked, the team was ready to see how we would stack up against this weeks competition. The car fired up with no problem and practice went well. Only minor adjustments were made and the team waited for qualifying to start.
The track was fast; we watched several fast times being posted. An 18.66 for Jordan Taylor, an 18.63 for Timmy Blackwell, whew these were fast times for the open wheels. Hank took to the track and posted a season’s best qualifying effort with an 18.33. We were all happy with our results, then Willie Milliken took to the track and knocked us off the pole with a lap of 18.11. So we settled for the outside front row.
We knew the night would be tough and as the flag flew, Hurricane Hank motored to the point and ran an exciting race with Willie. As the laps were winding down the top two were pushing each other for the lead. Luckily on the last lap Hank was able to keep the lead and win the race. On the cool down lap, Hank killed the engine and coasted into the scales. We had hurt the motor. Luckily for us, Willie ran out of fuel allowing Hank to win. So we had a little bad luck, but a little good luck as well. As the motor, the issues were minor and P&M Performance Racing Engines has already identified the issue and corrected and will be back in the Williams Plantworks Open Wheel for the July 4th race at Dublin Motor Speedway.
As always, we look forward to getting back to the track and hopefully putting on another good show for the fans!
