Back On Track

02 Jun 2009

The team rolled into Dublin hoping to recover from the previous week’s loss. We had many concerns as we unloaded at the track. All of us were wondering if we had checked everything. The pre-race checklist can be long and cumbersome to get through sometimes. The team wanted to make sure we hadn’t missed anything this week, so all of us were anxious to see how the car would perform in practice.

Practice was a little shaky, literally. As Hank practiced the car you could see a visible shake in the car. The team expected the worst. Once Hank brought the car back to the hauler, the team sprung into action. The engine was quickly ruled out, and then we checked the tires and found the right rear was out of round. This is the first time we’ve had any issue with an American Racer. We changed the tire and Hurricane Hank managed to qualify the Williams Plantworks Open Wheel on the outside of the front row with Travis Hair taking the pole.

On the start Hurricane Hank waited for the green flag to fly and when it did he stormed from the outside pole and had cleared the leader by turn one. There were a few close calls during the early part of the race, but Hank held on to win his fourth race at Dublin Motor Speedway with Dwayne Parker and Mackie Cox finishing second and third.
