The Hurricane Wins on Fan Appreciation Night

09 Aug 2010

Fan Appreciation night proved to be the first win of the night with one of our youngest team members winning a brand new bicycle courtesy of Dublin Motor Speedway and Kelly Moore of the K99 Super Street team. Following that, the Williams Plantworks hauler was used as the pace truck for the first race of the night carrying a truck load of kids around the 4/10’s mile clay oval. A Huge “Thanks” to Mitchell Williams for providing the truck. It seemed all the kids in the back all had huge smiles and enjoyed leading the Pure Stock warriors to the green flag in front of a packed crowd. Overall without racing we had a Great time!

Even though we were having a good time, the team still had business to attend to and the fun still rolled as Hank put the Williams Plantworks/ P&M Performance Racing Engines Open Wheel on the pole with a time of 18.24.

Racing second on the roster the team prepped the car and got ready for the feature. As always everyone had a few butterflies as Hank took to the track. As the green flag flew, “The Hurricane” sped out to the lead and hugged the guardrail for the first two laps. After finding a few rough spots, Hank went to the high side and stayed there for the rest of the night bringing home his 5th win at Dublin this year and the 7th of the season.

Hank pulled in to victory lane and celebrated the victory with his team in victory. Thanks go out to T.L Patterson and Sandy McKenzie for taking photos to record the victory!

Overall a fantastic night at the track and a fantastic night of racing!

We would also like to Thank P&M Performance Racing Engines, Williams Plantworks and SSR Racing for helping us make this possible.

Weekend Off!

09 Jun 2010

Hurricane Hank and the team took this weekend off for a well deserved break to spend time with family and friends.

We hope to see everyone at the Dublin Motor Speedway this coming Saturday.

We would also like to Thank P&M Performance Racing Engines, Williams Plantworks and SSR Racing for helping us make this possible.

Another Win for the Hurricane!

02 Jun 2010

After a fine run the week before in Lancaster, Hurricane Hank came home to run against the toughest competition around.

Hank and the team rolled into Dublin Motor Speedway with a well earned second at Lancaster Motor Speedway the week before and all were hoping to continue that streak on our home track.

After working all week changing the car back to meet the Dublin rules, the entire team was excited to get back on the track and during practice Hank knew the car would be fast. Once he came off the track, we all talked about how the car felt and if any changes were needed. Hank looked at us and said the car felt good and to leave it alone. This is always music to the crew’s ears.

The team anxiously waited for the qualifying. As Hank strapped in the Williams Plantworks/P&M Performance Open Wheel, everyone had butterflies. Hank took the car to the chute and we waited for his lap. As he rolled out on the track, Hank brought the car up to speed and turned a lap of 18.17, which was good enough for the outside pole.

As the night went on, we watched the track as it dried out and wondered if we had the right setup in the car. A dry slick track is one of the hardest to read and figure out how to get traction on. So we waited to see……

During the feature, Hank lined up outside of the pole sitter Ricky Boahn and prepared for the start. Hank knew he was going to have to drive the car in hard on the first lap and hope she stuck. As the green flag flew, we all waited to see if it did. It didn’t take long for that question to be answered as he took the lead on the high side in 1 and 2. Hurricane Hank did a masterful job piloting the car throughout the race and led every lap for the WIN!

It was a terrific night for Hank and the team.

We would also like to Thank P&M Performance Racing Engines, Williams Plantworks and SSR Racing for helping us make this possible.

Solid Performance at Lancaster

25 May 2010

This past Saturday Hurricane Hank and team found ourselves in Lancaster, SC for the first Open Wheel Race the track has ever had. We all hoped our luck would carry over from the last few weeks as we entered the track. As we rolled across the track surface into the facility we all noticed the same thing….these were the longest straightaways we’ve ever seen. We were all nervous about what to expect.

Since we had never been on the track before, never raced on hard Goodyear tires or raced with a 5” spoiler we took a shot in the dark for the initial hot laps. During hot laps it became quite clear we didn’t have the right gear selected. The car just bogged down on the tacky red clay surface and was very slow coming up off the corners.

After hot laps Hurricane Hank and team quickly made a gear change and thought we would try the same gear we run at Dublin and Fayetteville. As Hank staged the car, all we could do was to wait and wonder. As Hank took to the track in the P&M Performance/Williams Plantwork open wheel to the track, we all had our fingers crossed. Hank turned that big half mile track in 21.80 seconds to take the outside pole for the feature. An excellent improvement over practice.

During the break from qualifying to the race, we discussed how hard we had to turn the engine on the track and decided on one more gear change for the feature. Again, after making the change we waited for the feature. As Hank rolled out for the feature, we knew all the changes we could do was done and the racing was in Hurricane Hanks hands to see what he could do.

As the green flag flew, Hank settled into second place chased the leader for the remainder of the race. During the last few laps Hank started to reel in the leader as leader started to become tighter and tighter in the corners, but we ran out of time and had to settle for second.

Overall it was a tremendous night for Hurricane Hank and the team. We knew we brought a knife to a gun fight since the rules stated any engine size, aluminum heads and roller cams were allowed. We had none of those and ran our small engine that we race with at Dublin and Fayetteville. The fact that we had never ran on that track and those tires before felt good, especially since the drivers in front of us and behind us had practiced several weekends before the event. We finished a car length behind the race winner and half a straight in front of third, so overall a successful weekend.

This weekend it’s off to Dublin Motor Speedway!!

Hurricane Hank would like to Thank Lancaster Motor Speedway for putting on the show, excellent track conditions and fast work by the track officials and crews. This was one of the best run shows we’ve ever been to!

We would also like to Thank P&M Performance Racing Engines, Williams Plantworks and SSR Racing for helping us make this possible.

Another Win for Hurricane Hank!

18 May 2010

Congratulations to Dublin Motor Speedway for the improving track conditions. The track was fast and Hurricane Hank used as much of the track as he could to register the second fastest lap to claim the outside pole!

Hank lined up outside of Ricky Boahn on the front row, with both drivers knowing that getting a solid start would be important. As the green flag flew, Hank drove to the outside of Ricky through turns 1 and 2 to take the lead! Hank survived several hard charges from Ricky, but Hank led every lap on his way to his second win at Dublin.

Way to go Hank!

We’d like to Thank P&M Performance Racing Engines, Williams Plantworks and SSR Racing for helping us make this possible.

What a Night!

11 May 2010

The team was excited to try our luck at Fayetteville Motor Speedway this weekend. We made a bunch of changes in the care hoping to have a good night. We all became anxious as qualifying approached.

As usual, Hurricane Hank and the team went through our pre qualifying ritual of double checking everything and checking tire pressures. As Hank rolls out on the track, we all held our breath. It didn’t take long to find out that Hurricane Hank put up a pole winning time!

Excited about our pole position, we discussed the changing track conditions and made our adjustments and waited for the feature. The track became very dry and dusty so we weren’t sure if the team had made the right decisions. We stuck to our guns and stuck by our changes.

Hank rolled out on the track for the 20 lap feature and as the green flag flew, he was able to pull into the lead and led every lap for our first feature win at Fayetteville this year. We were all excited to see how well the car performed as it seemed to be on a rail this night. Hurricane Hank was all smiles as he climbed out of the Williams Plantworks/P&M Performance Open Wheel.

We’d like to Thank P&M Performance Racing Engines, Williams Plantworks and SSR Racing for helping us make this possible.

Second Place at Dublin!

11 May 2010

After working hard all week to fix the power steering issues from the week before the entire team was excited to get back to Dublin to try our luck. After all the prep work, the Williams Plantworks Open Wheel was ready to hit the track.

Just before qualifying the team went through our normal preps, checked tire pressures, warmed the engine up and checked a few nuts and bolts to ensure everything was the best we could make it for Hurricane Hank. After all the checks, Hank took the car to the staging lanes to prepare for his qualifying lap. As he rolled on the track the car looked good and as he came to the green the care was nice and solid through turn one and two and had her wound up getting into three. The car rotated well and then the rear tire hooked a rut causing us to qualify in the fourth place.

The team made some changes to help the car with traffic and sent Hank out for the feature. Starting in the fourth position, he had his work cut out for him. As the green flag flew Hank passed for third on the outside coming out of turn two on the first lap and then made the pass on the inside for turn two. That’s where we would finish. Hank ran down the leader, but didn’t quite have enough to get around the leader, Ricky Boahn.

Overall we had a solid night with a second place finish!

The team would like to Thank Simon Sanders for the use of his generator for the night and also would like to congratulate him and Willie Milliken for on their 3rd place finish.
We’d also to Thank P&M Performance Racing Engines, Williams Plantworks and SSR Racing for helping us make this possible.

What?!?! No Power Steering!!!!

26 Apr 2010

Again, Team Hurricane worked hard all week to get the Williams Plantworks/P&M Performance #11 Open Wheel ready. The team was hoping to have the bugs worked out from the previous race. Many parts were replaced and adjustments made to the car during the week hoping to have everything worked out.

As Hank pulled out on the track for practice, the team had their fingers crossed. Hank brought the car up to speed and everything seemed to be in place with the exception of a slight push entering the corner. The team was relieved that the car held together and the changes made were positive.

After a few adjustments the car was ready to qualify! Hank brought the car up to speed and the car looked good, but was still pushing up in the corners and settled for a 5th place starting position. So far a solid night.

The team made a few more changes for the feature and as Hurricane Hank was backing the car up out of the pit stall, he lost power steering. Patrick Williams (Team Hurricane’s Crew Chief) jumped into action and dumped more fluid in the car and the steering came back. Unfortunately the fix was short lived and Hank lost power steering during the race causing the car to be very hard to steer. Hank muscled his way up to an exciting third place finish, nearly taking second from Carlos in the late stages of the race. Both Carlos Jaramillo and Andy Floyd, the race winner, ran an excellent race and we were all very happy with the third place finish at Fayetteville.

Next on our schedule is Dublin Motor Speedway scheduled for May 1st! Hope to see everyone at the track!

Special Thanks goes out the Corky Williams and the 32LLM ride for helping us out this weekend. We’d also to Thank P&M Performance Racing Engines, Williams Plantworks and SSR Racing for helping us make this possible.

Finally Racing Again!

18 Apr 2010

Hurricane Hank and team visited the Dublin Motor Speedway this weekend with high expectations.

After weeks of dyno testing and working through some engine issues, Hurricane Hank and the team were able to return to the track to see what the P&M Performance/Williams Plantworks Open Wheel Mod had to offer.

Hank rolled out on the track on quickly put the car through its paces. We quickly found out the chassis was working great, but the engine was skipping. So the team jumped into action and changed out the carb and prepped the car for qualifying.

Due to large amounts of water being placed on the track prior to qualifications, the track completely changed. Hanks years of experience behind the wheel paid off and managed to post the fastest time on the muddy track, placing the 11 car on the pole for the feature. Although the car ran better during qualifying, we still had our issues. Once Hank returned to the trailer we noticed the starter had broken off. No big deal as the team jumped into action to repair the starter. As the starter was being completed, a fuel leak was found. Again the team had to jump into action and worked to find the replacement parts needed to ensure the car was going to be safe for the feature. With minutes to spare, the repair was made and Hank strapped into the car. Hank hit the starter button and nothing happened. The starter refused to work, so our Crew Chief flew into action and Patrick Williams was able to push start the car to meet the bell. The crew chalked these issues up to minimal practice time where we would normally shake things down.

Hurricane Hank lined up on the pole for the feature with Chris Parker in the 84 car on the outside front row. As the green flag flew, Chris was able to beat Hank into the first corner and would lead the “Hurricane” down the back stretch. Entering turn 3, Chris slipped up and Hank dove to the inside and took the lead to lead the first lap. Hank successfully survived several strong charges from Chris and the hard charging Ricky Boahn to take his first win of the season!

We still have some work to do but overall we had a Great first night!

Congratulations Hank! The team would like to “Thank” Simon Sanders and the LLM team from Corky Boy Racing for their assistance this weekend! We would also like to “Thank” our sponsors, P&M Performance Racing Engines, Williams Plantworks and SSR Racing for helping us make this possible.

Practice...Practice...Practice...soon

03 Mar 2010

Practice is right around the corner!

As the season approaches, team Hurricane is working hard to get ready. Everything has been taken apart, cleaned or replaced and being put back together. (A Huge “Thanks” goes out to our Crew Chief Patrick). We’ve tried to learn a few new things in the off season and hopefully the changes we’ve made will help us have another successful year.

All of us on the team are looking forward to seeing Hurricane Hank Edwards wheel the #11 Open Wheel again this year, but looks like we will be missing a few practice dates while we are waiting on a few parts to come in. We hope to be at one practice at Fayetteville and one at Dublin and will be at the opener at Dublin on April 3rd. Please come out and see us, we are going to make every attempt to be at the open house at the Lu Mil Vineyards and have the car on display. We do hope you stop by and say Hello!

Williams Plantworks and P&M Performance Racing Engines will be our primary sponsors again this year. Their support is tremendous and without their help our racing efforts would be in serious jeopardy. If you have time, stop by our sponsors’ page and visit their websites to see what they have to offer. I think you’ll be surprised at the quality of workmanship that each of our sponsors offers in their products.

Gremlins!

21 Sep 2009

Only hot laps this weekend, unfortunately we still have a few Gremlins under the hood of the Williams Plantworks/P&M Performance Open Wheel.

Hurricane Hanks keen sense of what is right and wrong on the car noticed the car wasn’t coming up to speed as it should and parked the car for the night. Instead of continuing to race and taking a chance on grenading the motor, Hank and the team decided to park the car for the night.

Patrick, our crew chief, already has the engine out and has sent it to P&M Performance for some dyno time to identify where this gremlin is and get it fixed. We are looking forward to returning to the track when the engine is ready and hope to put on a good show for the fans!

We’d like to Thank our sponsors Williams Plantworks, P&M Performance Racing Engines, Belangers Bodies and Graphics, Butler Motorsports Media and SSR Race Cars for their support this year.

Short Weekend

14 Sep 2009

Unfortunately for the Williams Plantworks/P&M Performance Open Wheel this weekend was a short one at the track.

During the open wheel hot lap session we bent an exhaust valve, putting an end to our night. We’ve had tremendous success this year with our engine program and this is a minor set back. Due to the reliability and the performance of our engine packages we have been in contention for wins every night we’ve competed. You can’t ask for much better performance than that. Our team will ensure the problem is found and fixed before we hit the track again.

We expect to be back at the track this weekend 9/19 at the Dublin Motor Speedway.

See you at the track!

We’d like to Thank our sponsors Williams Plantworks, P&M Performance Racing Engines, Belangers Bodies and Graphics, Butler Motorsports Media and SSR Race Cars for their support this year.

Baker’s Dozen

08 Sep 2009

Unfortunately Hurricane Hank was sidelined this weekend due to a shoulder injury. Hank should return to action behind the wheel of the Williams Plantworks/P&M Performance Open Wheel on 9/12/09 at Dublin Motor Speedway.

Although the Hurricane was sidelined with an injury, the team still prepped the car and “The Wild Child” Willie Milliken stepped in to shake the car down and see if the changes made this past week worked.

Unfortunately the car still has the same bugs in it, but the car performed well enough for Willie to capture the pole and then go on to lead every lap for the open wheel modified win.

The car handled and performed well overall and the team didn’t have to touch a bolt on the car all night.

A special Thanks goes out to “The Wild Child” and to Phillip Malpass for their help this weekend in getting the team’s thirteenth win of the season!

Of course we’d like to Thank our sponsors Williams Plantworks, P&M Performance Racing Engines, Belangers Bodies and Graphics, Butler Motorsports Media and SSR Race Cars for their support this year.

Uncharacteristic Weekend

30 Aug 2009

Team Hurricane rolled into Dublin Motor Speedway with high hopes for the weekend. The team was anxious to get on the track since the night before was rained out at Fayetteville Motor Speedway. The team went through our normal race preps and got the car ready for Hurricane Hank.

After the once over of the car, it was time for practice. Hank climbed aboard the Williams Plantworks Open Wheel and put the car through its paces. The car seemed to handle well, but had a hesitation in the car. The team worked to cure the problem, but the issue seemed to get worse as the night went along.

Hank rolled out on the track to qualify and again the car felt good, but as he rolled through turns three and four he hooked a rut which caused us to qualify in the 8th place position. Again, the team went to work looking at what might be happening.

As race time approached, the team was hopeful, but we knew there was still a gremlin that we couldn’t quite figure out. Hank lined up in his spot in the line up and prepared to race. As the green flag flew, Hurricane Hank moved up through the field eventually catching up to the leaders. Unfortunately, the hesitation came back and made it very difficult for Hank to pass the top two cars and the team settled for a well earned third place finish. Overall we had a good night and we are looking forward to our next races for the month of September. As usual, we have full confidence in our team and its ability to find our hesitation and we will be back to try our luck again!

Congratulations to Jeffery Tyndall on his win!

We’d like to Thank our sponsors Williams Plantworks, P&M Performance Racing Engines, Belangers Bodies and Graphics, Butler Motorsports Media and SSR Race Cars for their support this year.

Poor Finish for a Good Run

17 Aug 2009

The first visit back to Fayetteville Motor Speedway since this spring didn’t turn out the way the team had hoped. The performance was there, but we just didn’t have the finish we were looking for.

After overcoming many issues with the car over the past week, we were finally able to get the Williams Plantworks open wheel back together Friday night before the race. The P&M Performance Racing Engine had a fresh tune up and was ready to go. Patrick, our crew chief, checked every nut and bolt and alignments on the car. Team Hurricane was ready.

Shortly after unloading the car, Hurricane Hank was able to get a few laps of practice in. Although the car seemed to be performing well, there weren’t really enough green flag practice laps to get a good feel for the car. We made a couple of minor changes and waited for qualifying.

When qualifying time came around, Hurricane Hank strapped himself into the car and proceeded to the staging lane. Many fast times were set and Hank was going out late in the qualifying order. Hank went on the track, brought the car up to speed and cut an excellent lap to take the pole!

After making a few more changes to adjust for the changing track conditions, Hank strapped back into the car and prepared to take the green flag. As the green flag flew, Hurricane Hank powered to the lead. Hurricane Hank had a tremendous battle with Andy Floyd through out the race with several exciting moments including three wide racing as they worked their way through lapped traffic. Everything was looking good until two laps to go. At some point in the racing program the car received some sheet metal damage to the right rear which resulted in the sheet metal to rub the tire causing it to go flat, resulting in an uncharacteristic tenth place finish for the night.

Overall Hank and the team were very pleased with the performance since it had been several months since racing on that track. We look forward to the next race at Fayetteville and to this weekend’s race at Dublin. We hope to see all the hot shoes from both tracks at Dublin this weekend.

We’d like to say “Thanks” to Williams Plantworks, P&M Performance Racing Engines, Belangers Bodies and Graphics, Butler Motorsports Media and SSR Race Cars for their support this year. Without their help we probably wouldn’t be on the track!

Thanks for all the Help!

11 Aug 2009

Hurricane Hank collected another well earned win on Saturday night at Dublin Motor Speedway. Although the car ran well in the feature, the car had some issues.

The team prepped the car as usual, checking stagger, air pressures, fuel, etc. But every once in a while something unexpected will reach up and bite you. This week we had carb issues. The Hurricane ran a few practice laps and the car was missing badly as if it kept loading up. We adjusted the floats to no avail so the team did the next best thing……find another carb.

Thanks to Corky Williams and the Limited Late Model team 32 for their help in loaning us their spare. The team thrashed to get the carb on and when we did, we realized the return springs we had been using would not work. So one part of the crew worked on buttoning up the carb install the other team members were looking for a way to get the return springs to attach, neither proved to be an easy task. After hooking up the fuel line, we realized the fuel lines were leaking. Another special “Thanks” needs to go to the crews of Hugh Ray and Rocky Gasque for their help. They provided the seals to stop all the fuel leaks and provided the mechanics wire that allowed us to attach the throttle return springs. The team was grateful for all the help that was provided and offered to help us resolve our problems. The sportsmanship was second to none and made us all feel good about the sport we enjoy.

After correcting our carburetor issues the task of qualifying was at hand. Hurricane Hank had confidence in his crew and the repairs that were made and went out and set fast time putting the P&M Performance/Williams Plantworks Open Wheel Modified on the pole!

After double checking all of the connections and ensuring the return springs were working correctly, the team prepped the car for the feature.

Lining up on the pole, Hurricane Hank led 19 cars to the green and led every lap of the shortened, cautioned filled race to the checkers. That was Hurricane Hanks 10th win at Dublin Motor Speedway and the 12 win overall for the year.

Team Hurricane will be trying our luck this weekend at Fayetteville Motor Speedway this weekend. Please come out to the track and enjoy a fun night of racing.

Mother Nature wins at Fayetteville!

03 Aug 2009

Team Hurricane was looking forward to racing at Fayetteville Motor Speedway this weekend. Unfortunately Mother Nature had other ideas.

Please join us at Dublin Motor Speedway this Saturday as we continue our point’s battle with the Dublin Hot Shoes.

We would like to Thank our sponsors: Williams Plantworks, P&M Performance Racing Engines, SSR Race Cars, Butler Motorsports Media and Belanger Race Car Bodies and Graphics.

The team intends to blow into Fayetteville Motor Speedway on August 1st to try our luck with the Fayetteville Hot Shoes!

We would like to Thank our sponsors: Williams Plantworks, P&M Performance Racing Engines, SSR Race Cars, Butler Motorsports Media and Belanger Race Car Bodies and Graphics.

We hope that everyone will come out and enjoy a fun night of racing and hope that everyone has a safe finish!

and one more makes ELEVEN!

21 Jul 2009

The team had another good weekend. Everyone went through the normal prep work. Tires were checked, nuts and bolts were checked and all looked good. So we sat back and waited for practice.

The car was fast in practice. Everything checked out, but we decided to make a few changes to see if we could get the Williams Plantworks Open Wheel to hook up a little better for qualifying. The changes were made quickly and efficiently by the team, ride heights were checked and then we waited to qualify.

Hurricane Hank climbed into the car and strapped himself in. All of us were getting a few butterflies, wondering if the changes were the right ones. As Hank entered the chute we held our breath a bit as we all had to wait and see. Hank rolled out on the track and set the fast time of the qualifying session putting the P&M Performance Racing Engines Open Wheel on the Pole for the feature. Hank and the whole team were relieved that our changes were good and the car responded well.

Hank lined up on the pole for the feature. The team had made some minor changes after qualifying and, again, we were all nervous. As the green flag flew, Hurricane Hank and the Wild Child Willie Milliken were door handle to door handle for the first lap, Hank on the inside and Willie on the outside. Willie showed a lot of muscle running the high groove, but Hank was eventually able to clear the Wild Child to take the lead. The racing was tight and Willie was able make several runs at Hank and the top spot, but Hank kept his cool, raced his own race and took home the top honors by winning.

And that makes 11 wins on the year. We are having an incredible year and we would like to “Thank” our sponsors, Williams Plantworks, P&M Performance Racing Engines (awesome power) and SSR Race Cars. Without their help, we wouldn’t be racing.

and that makes TEN!

14 Jul 2009

The team had a much better weekend. No flat trailer tires, no broken tool boxes and no broken radiators. Whew, it’s amazing we made it through the fourth of July.

This weekend we went through our normal routine and checked the tires, changed one, made sure things were tight and waited on practice. The track was in good shape and the car practiced well, so the team decided to leave well enough alone and didn’t make any adjustments to the car.

Hurricane Hank climbed in to the Williams Plantworks Open Wheel and prepared himself for qualifying. He fired up the P&M Performance Racing Engine warming it up for that one lap. Hank entered the chute and waited his turn. Pulling out on the track the car came up to speed quickly and Hank promptly set fast time and captured the pole. After qualifying the team made few minor changes to the car and relaxed until time for the feature. The team was a bit anxious, but we always are before the feature.

Hank calmly climbed into the car and prepared himself for the feature. Tire pressures were checked, everything got a last minute check and Hank headed for the track. As the green flag flew, a couple of cars were able to get out in front of the Hurricane before they got to turn one. The Hurricane, cool under pressure, used the power from the P&M Performance Racing Engine and powered past those cars as he came back by the flag stand to lead the first lap. Hank would keep that lead throughout the race surviving a late race scare from Willie Milliken. On the last lap coming out of turn two, Willie was able to get under Hank and they drag raced to turn three. Somehow, the Hurricane managed to pull off the victory.

This was a special win for the team and Hank got the checkered flag and made a victory lap for the team. This was the team’s tenth win of the season, which is unbelievable for everyone on the team. So far this has been a dream season for us.

Tough Night

07 Jul 2009

What a weekend….

Usually I can say that is a good context, but this weekend it took a lot out of the team. After having the engine freshened up, we spent Friday installing it. Everything went well till we fired it up. Backfiring out the exhaust and really just not running right. The team realized the plug wires were crossed.

Saturday the team showed up to the track and realized we had a flat on the trailer, decided to change it after the race so no big deal. The team went through our normal pre race checks with no issues. Hank climbed in the number 11 Open Wheel and fired it up for practice. Well….as he practiced the bottom of the radiator came off its mount and bounced into the fan taking the radiator out. The team thought our night was over, so the search was on….

We asked around the pits and didn’t have much luck. Then we talked to Jordan Taylor. He walked to the front of his trailer and pulled out a box with the exact radiator we needed. Thanks goodness, team Hurricane was still in business. During the drivers meeting the team installed the radiator and filled her with water.

By the time we had everything buttoned up and filled with water it was time for qualifying. The gremlins weren’t done yet. Hurricane climbed into the car and made his qualifying laps and the car pushed badly. Neither lap was very good and came out with a 5th place qualifying effort. The worst of the year. The team regrouped thought about what was going on and we changed a few things and moved some tires around for the race.

Everyone was anxious as Hank pulled out on the track for the feature. We were all wondering if we had all the bugs worked out and made the right adjustments. All we could do was wait for the green flag. As the flag flew, we quickly had our answer. The car went into the 1st turn in 5th place and came out of turn two, three wheeling, in 2nd. Hurricane Hank passed three cars in one corner and the car quickly caught the leader. Hank was able to make a couple of runs at the leader but was never able to get under him to take the lead, so we settled for a second place finish. Not bad considering everything that happened that day.

Of course the drama wasn’t over; we still had to change the trailer tire. As we were backing the trailer up on the ramp to lift the damaged wheel off the ground, the tool box decided to take a fall. In the process the toolbox was a complete loss, damaging the case, drawers and breaking the top off the box. We did at least get the tire changed without much fanfare. We finally loaded up and headed home. We are very happy with our 2nd place finish after everything was said and done.

We would like to send a sincere “Thanks” to Jordan Taylor for allowing us to use his spare radiator. Without it, we would’ve been headed home early.

We would also like to Thank the “Wild Child” and his team for their help. They loaned us a grinder to work our tires with, a mud plug and Willie being “chauffer” while trying to find tires and the radiator. We would also like to congratulate them on a well deserved win!

Some Good Luck….Some Bad Luck

30 Jun 2009

The team recovered well from the previous week’s issues. A new starter was installed and the tires were checked, the team was ready to see how we would stack up against this weeks competition. The car fired up with no problem and practice went well. Only minor adjustments were made and the team waited for qualifying to start.

The track was fast; we watched several fast times being posted. An 18.66 for Jordan Taylor, an 18.63 for Timmy Blackwell, whew these were fast times for the open wheels. Hank took to the track and posted a season’s best qualifying effort with an 18.33. We were all happy with our results, then Willie Milliken took to the track and knocked us off the pole with a lap of 18.11. So we settled for the outside front row.

We knew the night would be tough and as the flag flew, Hurricane Hank motored to the point and ran an exciting race with Willie. As the laps were winding down the top two were pushing each other for the lead. Luckily on the last lap Hank was able to keep the lead and win the race. On the cool down lap, Hank killed the engine and coasted into the scales. We had hurt the motor. Luckily for us, Willie ran out of fuel allowing Hank to win. So we had a little bad luck, but a little good luck as well. As the motor, the issues were minor and P&M Performance Racing Engines has already identified the issue and corrected and will be back in the Williams Plantworks Open Wheel for the July 4th race at Dublin Motor Speedway.

As always, we look forward to getting back to the track and hopefully putting on another good show for the fans!

Hank is Back!

22 Jun 2009

The night didn’t go completely as planned. The team was hoping for a nice smooth night with no problems or issues, but that wasn’t to happen. During practice the team found a tire that was starting to separate. Then right before qualifying the starter died. The team was a bit concerned that our luck had finally run out.

So far…Not a Good Night.

Hank put all the problems behind him during qualifying and posted a time good enough for the pole!

Again before the race started, we had to have a push to get the car started. Hank lined up on the pole and as the green flag flew the C1 car beat Hank to the first corner. Hank saw an opening on the bottom of the track and drove the Williams Plantworks/P&M Performance Open Wheel back to the front. Hank came out of turn two three wheeling down the backstretch and never looked back and winning the race followed by the C1 and 00.

So overall a good night, but not without its problems.

Team Hurricane would like to say “Thanks” to the Parkers for helping us this weekend by push starting the car.

Week Off!

14 Jun 2009

This week Team Hurricane took the week off. Hurricane Hank should be back in action at Dublin Motor Speedway on 6/20/09.

We would like to say “Thanks” to our fans and our sponsors. Without you, we could not race.

See you at the track!

Two in a Row

09 Jun 2009

The team worked hard on the car this week making several changes to the car. Again, not knowing how the car would react to the changes, the team was quite anxious to see how the car would work. Luckily our questions were answered with a good qualifying lap putting the Hurricane on the pole.

Hank kept watching the track and, although Hank was on the pole, we decided to make a few more changes and hope we made the right decisions. The car worked very well during the race. Hurricane Hank did a masterful job in watching the track and making adjustments for the track conditions and managed to bring home the car in first place one more time. Hank was ecstatic in winning the $1000 to win show and appreciated the cheers of the fans as he crawled out of the car in victory lane.

That’s two in a row!

Back On Track

02 Jun 2009

The team rolled into Dublin hoping to recover from the previous week’s loss. We had many concerns as we unloaded at the track. All of us were wondering if we had checked everything. The pre-race checklist can be long and cumbersome to get through sometimes. The team wanted to make sure we hadn’t missed anything this week, so all of us were anxious to see how the car would perform in practice.

Practice was a little shaky, literally. As Hank practiced the car you could see a visible shake in the car. The team expected the worst. Once Hank brought the car back to the hauler, the team sprung into action. The engine was quickly ruled out, and then we checked the tires and found the right rear was out of round. This is the first time we’ve had any issue with an American Racer. We changed the tire and Hurricane Hank managed to qualify the Williams Plantworks Open Wheel on the outside of the front row with Travis Hair taking the pole.

On the start Hurricane Hank waited for the green flag to fly and when it did he stormed from the outside pole and had cleared the leader by turn one. There were a few close calls during the early part of the race, but Hank held on to win his fourth race at Dublin Motor Speedway with Dwayne Parker and Mackie Cox finishing second and third.

The Streak Ends

26 May 2009

After winning the feature for the last three weeks, Dublin Motor Speedway put a $100 bounty on the Hurricane. The Hurricane rolled into the track at full force. The car unloaded fast as it had in the past. Nothing was really changed and Hurricane Hank put the car on the pole with Willie Milliken on the outside front row.

When the green flag fell Hank and Willie drag raced to the first corner and Hank came out with the lead. After leading for a few laps the car picked up a slight push allowing Willie to get by and claim the $100 bounty and ending Hanks win streak. Hank still finished a strong second with Chris Parker finishing third.

Good run for everyone and Team Hurricane would like to congratulate Willie on his win and for capturing the bounty. We are looking forward to another good weekend at Dublin Motor Speedway this weekend.

Another Solid Performance

19 May 2009

After a long week of going over the entire car, the team showed up not knowing what to expect this week. This is the first time we’ve actually seen a tacky track and we were hoping that we had put everything back where it needed to be. The whole team was anxious to know how the car would perform.

Practice the car looked good and then Hurricane Hank put the car on the outside front row in qualifying with Ricky Boahn taking the pole. After a few minor adjustments Hank was ready for the feature. When the green flag fell on the field Hurricane Hank roared to the front in the Williams Plantworks Open Wheel and never looked back, capturing his third feature in a row. Ricky Boahn and Willie Milliken finished second and third, both with strong runs.

The team would like to give a special “Thanks” to Willie Milliken and team for allowing us to borrow equipment that allowed us to race this weekend. Without it, we would’ve been home.

Outstanding Run!

12 May 2009

The Hurricane had another outstanding run this past Saturday Night. After qualifying on the outside front row, Hurricane Hank sped to the lead past Pole Sitter Ricky Boahn by the first turn. Hank was barely able to hold off a hard charging Willie (Wild Child) Milliken for the win and a $1000 payday. The Wild Child was definitely on his game Saturday night and was extremely fast through the corners. Both The Hurricane and Wild Child were running hard and both racers raced a hard clean race.

The team would like to “Thank” Hurricane Hank for driving hard and capturing his fourth win of the season.

Great to be back at Dublin!

04 May 2009

The Hurricane visited Dublin for the season opener. The track was in good shape since sitting since last November. The new management did a good job getting the track and facility ready. The new owner came by a couple of times and asked if there was anything we needed. The team is looking forward to visiting Dublin again.

Hurricane Hank had a good qualifying lap capturing the outside pole behind Willie Milliken. For the main event Hank and Willie lined up side by side for the start. Both drivers were anxious for the green flag and as the flag dropped Hank was able to get the advantage going into one. Hank, Willie and Timmy Blackwell had a tremendous battle going for the whole 20 lap event. Willie pushed Hank for most of the race with Timmy very close behind looking for either driver to make a mistake. When the checkered flag fell and the dust settled the Hurricane had captured his first win of the season at Dublin and the third overall for the year.

Dublin was good to the team and we enjoyed being back!

Rough Finish for a Good Start

28 Apr 2009

Hurricane Hank visited the Fayetteville Motor Speedway again this week. The car felt good during practice. The team drew a 6th place starting position for Hank for the second of two heat races. He quickly worked his way through the field finishing 2nd behind Ricky Boahn. A very promising night so far.

Hank started the feature in 4th place, again working his way through the field and was marching to the front. Roughly midway through the race Hank was able to get under and pass Ricky Boahn for second place and started to challenge Andy Floyd for the lead. The Hurricane was able to get past Andy a few times, but each time a caution flew putting the #11 open wheel back into second place. After the green flew, Hank patiently waited and held his spot. With two laps to go, Hank dove to the inside of Andy Floyd in turns 3 and 4. Things were looking good, till the two touched in 4 sending the Hurricane into a spin that caused part of the field to stack up into the car and our night was done. Hank still managed an 8th place finish. Overall the team had an excellent night, but the results didn’t show it. That’s racing!

Congratulations to Andy Floyd for a well earned victory!

Good Start to the season for Hurricane Hank!

23 Apr 2009

Hurricane Hank brought the #11 Williams Plantworks ride home to another second place finish with Carlos Jaramillo making it interesting at the end. Hank ran second for the majority of the race, but was passed last in the race by Carlos. Thanks to a late race caution, Hank was able to cool his tires and make one last run at Carlos and captured second place. Ricky Boahn proved to have a handle on the Fayetteville track and seemed untouchable on Friday night.

Congratulations to Ricky, Hank and Carlos for their 1..2..3 finish.

Another Great Finish

13 Apr 2009

Unfortunately for the field, Ricky Boahn brought his “A” game and took home the first place honors at Fayetteville Saturday night. The Hurricane still ran strong and powered his way to a second place finish, beating out a hard charging Carlos Jaramillo.

Hank had several challenges for second through several restarts, but he was able to stay calm and cool and fell in behind Ricky on the restarts. Carlos was coming on strong though at the end. It would’ve been interesting if there had been one more restart to see what would’ve happened.

The team would like to Thank Shawn Beasley and Rodney Rich for their help this weekend. Racers helping racers really makes this sport great. We wish both the best of luck this season.

Overall, another Great night for the Hurricane!

What a Weekend!

06 Apr 2009

Friday night Hurricane Hank visited Hammerdown Speedway in Red Springs for the first on Friday. The whole team was a bit nervous. None of us had ever been there before. Things didn’t go very well in the beginning as well. The carb was hanging up and we got very little practice. We thought about loading up and going home, but decided to stay and see where we qualified. We are happy we did, Hank qualified 3rd for the feature race and proceeded to move to the front and take the lead. Willie Milliken and Ricky Boahn were definite factors and gave Hank a run for the money. Hank was able to hang on for our first feature win of the year.

Saturday night Hurricane Hank was at Fayetteville Motor Speedway. We got a good draw for our heat race and had a good battle with Willie Milliken for the top spot. Since we won the first heat race, we started the feature on the pole. Hank worked the car over the ruts and holes to go on and win the feature at Fayetteville.

We feel very fortunate to start the season with two wins especially against a quality field of cars at both tracks. Special Thanks goes out to Mitchell Williams of Williams Plantworks for the excellent food and feeding our hungry crowd!

Wow what a weekend!

PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE….finally…

22 Mar 2009

It felt great to finally get back on the track on Saturday. Good to see the crowd and finally roll the new car out. Hurricane took the new car out on the track and shook it down for the first time this year. For the most part everything went well, everything was tight and seemed to work well. We have a few minor issues to deal with, but nothing major and we should be ready for the season opener on March 28th.

We’d like to say “Thanks” to Ed and AJ Belanger for their help prior to getting to the track. We had to make some body mods and fix some graphics. They were very hospitable in helping us. Great sportsmanship!

We should have new pictures of our car posted soon. Thanks to Rhett Butler of Butler Motorsports Media for his help!

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the track!

Racing Season Just Around the Corner

18 Feb 2009

The racing season is just around the corner. We are looking forward to seeing the fans and starting practice on March 7th. With a new car and new track surface, I believe it will be a fun challenge to our team to get a handle on everything. Our tentative plans are to run at Fayetteville Motor Speedway this year and possibly augment our racing to Hammerdown and maybe Carolina during the off weekends at Fayetteville. We should have our initial schedule posted soon.

We will have a different look this year, the familiar number 11 will still be on the car, but everything else but the driver has changed and we are looking forward to seeing what our new power plant from P&M Performance Racing Engines has to offer.

Just a reminder, racing is an expensive sport and would be very difficult to race without sponsorship. Please take the time to visit our sponsors listed on our sponsor’s page. Without them we probably wouldn’t be on the track this year.

We would also like to say “Thank You” for supporting our sport regardless of the driver your pull for. We understand the issues and concerns of the economy and appreciate your support of the sport we love called “Dirt Track Racing”!

Off Season Update!

06 Jan 2009

The crew is working hard to get a new car ready for Hank for 2009! Hopefully the changes will be positive and allow us a better chance to hopefully win a few more races this year! We at Team 11 are anxious to get the new car on the track for a good break-in/shakedown.

The only thing left are a few finishing touches and we should be off to the races...er...when the season starts anyway.

We will be unveiling our new colors shortly, so stay tuned!

Merry Christmas!

23 Dec 2008

Team Hurricane would like to wish all of our fans and sponsors a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Please be safe this holiday season and we look forward to seeing everyone at the track!
