I’ve been around racing most of my life. I grew up around racing in the late 60’s and early 70’s following my Dad to several race tracks around Charlotte. We raced primarily 6 cylinders back then and had several feature wins at a variety of tracks. We raced at the dirt tracks at Concord, Hickory, Lancaster and Starlite to name a few and watched many talented racers. My favorite dirt driver was Stick Elliott.

I recently got back into racing as an adult and recently had an opportunity to partner with the Williams Motorsport Open Wheel team that Hank drives for today. Working with Team Williams, we were able to provide Hank with top quality equipment. At the end of the 2008 season I took over as the team owner. Sounds fancier than it really is. I basically hand tools to the team at the track as they perform the necessary adjustments to the car.

2008 was a very exciting for us and we’ve made some tremendous friends at the track and hopefully a few fans as well! Racing with the best has kept us on our toes and we look forward to racing with the Open Wheel competitors in 2009.

Patrick’s racing career began in 2004 when he went to Dublin Motor speedway, his first trip to a dirt track. He was instantly hooked. He immediately started assembling his first race car to race in the bomber division. The following year his dad, Mitchell, joined the racing scene helping Patrick financially and together they built a super street car, (engine built by Billy Smith). In 2007 Patrick drove in the OWM ranks on a limited schedule at Dublin Motor Speedway. At the end of 2007 Patrick relinquished the wheel of his 11 car to veteran Hank Edwards who was leading the points and needed a ride to finish out the 2007 racing season. Patrick is now the crew chief for the #11 OWM team.

Billy has been a tremendous help to the team. He insures that our tune up is good and makes sure all the nuts and bolts have been tightened and all engine adjustments have been made. Without his help, we would have missed several races this year. His knowledge and personality are great to have around the shop. Billy has been around racing for many years and has built solid engines not only for our team but other top performing teams as well.

Mitchell’s racing career starting in 1970 when a man asked him to drive his late model at Little River Speedway. He raced the next 3 years there for the same car owner who eventually got out of racing. He then hooked up with a friend who raced Enduro Go Karts and raced on tracks like Daytona, Talladega, Charlotte, Rockingham and Mid-Ohio. He raced the Karts for the next 4 years against the likes of Lake Speed. Then in 2004 his son, Patrick, talked him into coming to watch him race at Dublin Motor Speedway in the Bomber class. Mitchell decided to get back into the racing business with his son, thus forming Williams Motorsports. In 2008, he sold the team to Ted Freeman, to move on to other things. He is still a regular at the track, and cooks a mean track-side meal.
